TYPOLOGY
Ashanti Gold Weights represent a wide variety of subjects. The
simplest are geometric (possibly with spiritual significance. The
animal world (birds as well) is frequently represented, as are
human beings, apparently going about their everyday life. It
appears that many weights of animals and humans are representations
not only of the political and religious systems, but also of
popular sayings or stories. Objects of ceremonial, religious or
other "power" use, are also frequently represented.
