Borubudur: Jewel of Indonesia

The following pages introduce the sketch-outline to the proposed project to digitize the high-quality photographs of the stupa in N. J. Krom & T van Erp, Beschrijving van Barabadur, The Hague, 1920-31, 2 vols & 3 portfolios of plates. This sumptuous work, which is now out of copyright, was published in 215 copies by Martinus Nijhoff. These will be supplemented by contemporary colour view of the monument and its sculptures.

NB the following pages are currently for demonstration only, in that the images at the end of the links are exemplary, rather than a full suite. Indeed, with a monument possessing 1,460 narrative panels and 1,212 decorative panels, this would be a substantial undertaking, to be carefully planned. But the skeletons on the following pages should give some idea of the proposed functionality.

Clicking on a hotspot below will lead you to the various parts of the monument, via its plan and sections. Alternatively, click on the part required from the section of the monument, printed at the bottom of the page.
