Navajo/Diné myth of Anasazi Creation
The Navajo believe that they, and the Anasazi, descend from the underworld, which consists of four worlds preceding this world, the fifth world. When the third world was destroyed by supernatural forces, the Diné and Kiis'aanii were forced to move into the fourth world. It is from the Kiis'aanii that the Anasazi, of the fifth world, descend, and these two groups are believed to share many traits. The Anasazi brought corn with them from the fourth world, in order to grow crops.(McPherson 1992 p81-82) The modern day Hopi and Zuni Indians are believed to be descendants of the Anasazi.
