      Doorways in Spruce Tree House

      These photographs illustrate the types of doors used in the architecture of the Anasazi. Note the small size of the doors. Most would have to crouch to squeeze through. Also not the stone slab in the left photograph, which was used for protection against the weather and privacy. Doors could even be locked from the outside with the use of a pole. ( Ferguson & Rohn 1987, p36) Other doors have the T-shape, as shown in the photograph on the right. This is believed to have made access into the buildings easier.
