HOMEWaikerie today is known as 'The Gateway to the Riverland' and is Australia's major citrus producing area. The district also produces substantial quantities of dried apricots and wine grapes as well as avocados, almonds, melons, stone fruits and vegetables. It is a major centre for gliding, with both Australian and World Championships having been held there.It also attracts tourists.
