HEMPSEED AS A FOOD SOURCE
The seeds of the hemp plant contain no psychoactive ingredients, or the stuff that gets you high! They do though contain about 25% protein and they are high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and vitamin A. Like soy beans, hemp seeds can be processed into a variety of foodstuffs. Soybeans do contain a greater percentage of protein, however, the protein in hemp seeds is easier to digest. This is due to the fact 65% of hemp seed protein is in the form of globulin edestin (edestine comes from the Greek word 'edestos'= edible). This high content of edestin is combined with albumin (another globular protein which is found in all seeds) to provide all the essential amino acids necessary to create building block proteins for the body. These protein building blocks help to make immunglobulins, which are antibodies who ward off infections.
Not only do hemp seeds contain this vital protein matter, they are also have the highest source of essential fatty acids in the plant kingdom. These essential fatty acids, or oils, are linoleic and linolenic acids, and they are responsible for the luster in the skin, hair and eyes. These acids help lubricate the arteries and are used to treat people suffering from cardio vascular diseases, glandular atrophy, gall stones, kidney degeneration acne, dry skin and immune deficency.
